Z for Zachariah is about a girl named Ann and everybody around where she lives died due to radiation poisoning. So now Ann is all by herself in her valley, until she meets a scientist named Mr. Loomis. They survive together in the valley.

Ann Burden is possibly the only person left on earth. Nerve gas and a nuclear bomb have given off radiation on the earth, except in her valley. A scientist comes along, and she believes he is dangerous.
